The plant will mainly be used for storage and, to a small extent, for assembly consisting of only mechanical work processes. There will be no harmful emissions and the water and energy requirements are minimal.

‘As another important stage in the wave of automotive development marked by German premium car brands, CATL is establishing a plant for the storage and assembly of devices suitable for green energy storage in the facility in Debrecen rented from INPARK’s subsidiary,’ INPARK Szigma Ltd. announced.

The industrial-logistics hall, which will be completed in the Southern Economic Zone by September 2024, will use advanced industrial automation systems, thus guaranteeing even higher occupational safety.

Hungary will become one of the most important centres of the green transition in the world in the coming years. The green energy industry, which ensures the introduction of high technologies and continuous innovation, is the future of the Hungarian economy. Two important tasks of the industry are to ensure the production and storage of green energy.

The investments made in the wave of automotive development marked by German premium car brands fit into this process. CATL’s plant in Debrecen for the storage and assembly of devices suitable for green energy storage is also connected to these developments, which is being implemented in the Southern Industrial Park by INPARK’s subsidiary, INPARK Szigma Ltd. The company will lease the nearly 60,000 square metre facility, which will be completed by September 2024, to CATL on a long-term basis. The application for the environmental protection permit related to the project was submitted by the Hungarian company in mid-December.

‘As a result of the investment, an industrial-logistics facility designed to a high technical standard will be created. Advanced industrial automation systems will be used in the building, which will guarantee even higher safety at work,’ the managing director of INPARK Szigma Ltd., János Agócs-Kiss emphasises.

In the facility, units suitable for green energy storage will be assembled, and the tenant will store the raw materials necessary for the process, such as cells and cases.

In order to protect the local air, water and soil, INPARK Szigma Ltd., as the owner, will carry out regular inspections in the plant and cooperate with the authorities in enforcing the relevant legislation.

BMW Group: series production of Neue Klasse models begins in Debrecen and Munich https://debrecen4u.hu/bmw-group-series-production-of-neue-klasse-models-begins-in-debrecen-and-munich/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=bmw-group-series-production-of-neue-klasse-models-begins-in-debrecen-and-munich Wed, 17 Jan 2024 10:14:36 +0000 https://debrecen4u.hu/?p=253142 The BMW Group is investing EUR 650 million to convert the Neue Klasse model range into fully electric models from 2026 to the end of 2027.

The post BMW Group: series production of Neue Klasse models begins in Debrecen and Munich appeared first on Debrecen4u.

]]>
‘A new era is dawning at the BMW Group’s factory in Munich: the Neue Klasse limousine will be produced here from 2026, and a year later the plant will switch to the production of purely electric powered models. From the end of 2027, the Munich facility will become the first representative of the BMW Group’s international production network to successfully transition to electric mobility,’ the company announced.

‘The Munich factory is an excellent example of our adaptability. We are investing 650 million euros in the facility, where from the end of 2027, only models with a pure electric drive will be produced,’ Milan Nedeljković, member of the Board of Directors of BMW AG responsible for production announced.

‘Last year, we started serial production of six different zero-emission models. At the same time, we also set a production record, proving that with our production network we are able to produce and shape the future at the same time,’ he added.

‘Munich is the beating heart of BMW. The Munich factory is innovative and highly adaptable. As in the 1960s, the Neue Klasse is once again laying the foundations on which our factory will reinvent itself. This comprehensive technological transition is carried out in parallel with the production of around 1,000 new cars completed daily, which is a well-established practice here in Munich and thanks to the outstanding performance of our employees. It gives us great pleasure to introduce the Munich factory into the purely electric future – with the Neue Klasse limousine at the forefront,’ Peter Weber, Director of the BMW Group’s Munich plant said.

At the end of 2027, the era of models equipped with internal combustion engines will end at the Munich factory.

The BMW Group’s factory in Munich is a prime example of a seamless technological transition that anticipates the era of electric mobility. In 2015, the facility successfully integrated the model versions of the BMW 3 Series with plug-in hybrid drivetrain technology into the production line of model versions equipped with an internal combustion engine, to which the BMW i4 joined in 2021, as the first model with a purely electric drive. Today, every second car rolls off the production line of the Munich plant with a purely electric drive.

In 2026, the Munich factory will initially start serial production of the Neue Klasse in parallel with the current models. More than a year later, from the end of 2027, the facility will become the first plant in the BMW Group’s international production network that, as a result of the technological transition carried out by that time, will carry out series production exclusively of models with pure electric drive. 75 years after the start of serial production of the BMW 501 model in 1952, the era of models equipped with internal combustion engines at the Munich factory is ending.

Series production of the Neue Klasse models will begin at the BMW Group’s factory in Debrecen and Munich, and the future models will then be produced in the Chinese city of Shenyang and the Mexican city of San Luis Potosí.

The long-term operation of the Munich factory is guaranteed by a comprehensive transformation

In the past more than 100 years, the BMW Group’s factory in Munich has gone through many changes and reinvented itself from time to time. The company’s success story is surrounded by milestones such as the technological transition between the production of aircraft engines and the production of car models, or the successful debut of the Neue Klasse in the 1960s.

The new technological transition is currently projected by several large constructions, paving the way for the arrival of the Neue Klasse in 2026. The investment of 650 million euros also includes four buildings, which house, among other things, a new assembly line supplemented with logistics areas, as well as a new bodywork building hall.

In order to be able to fully satisfy the space requirements of the technological transition on the limited floor space of the factory located in the heart of Munich, the resources manufacturing department was moved after about 70 years to Hams-Hall in Great Britain and the city of Steyr in Austria. In Munich, 1,200 employees were further trained in various production strategies or were given new jobs at other facilities in the production network.

As in the 1960s and during the changes that have taken place since then, the new technological transition of the BMW Group’s factory in Munich is also taking place in parallel with series production. Regardless of the construction work, around 1,000 new models see the light of day in Munich every day, including model variants of the BMW 3 Series and the BMW i4 on the same assembly line.

The comprehensive transformation of the BMW Group’s factory in Munich guarantees the long-term operation of the plant, as well as a significant investment in Bavaria as an industrial location.

Digitisation at the BMW Group factory in Munich along the principles of the BMW iFACTORY production strategy

The basic principles of the BMW iFACTORY production strategy guarantee absolute flexibility, exceptional efficiency and outstanding integration capabilities in all plants of the BMW Group’s international production network from the new factory being built in Debrecen to the facility in Munich, which has been operating for more than 100 years and is preparing full steam for the next technological transition.

The BMW iFACTORY production strategy is synonymous with absolute production expertise covering the entire production network. One of its important pillars is digitisation covering every detail, which, along a holistic approach, raises the interaction between specialists, production processes and intelligent systems to a new dimension, while optimising the phases of serial production and supporting the work of specialists. Its application covers three areas, data science, artificial intelligence and virtualisation.

“The first pilot project of the HUMDA hydrogen bus will be launched in Debrecen. The public can test the bus free of charge for a month in our city,” Mayor of Debrecen László Papp wrote in a recent Facebook post.

Passengers can travel free of charge for one month on the 12-metre Solaris Urbino 12 electric H2 bus.

DKV has also issued a press release about the test run, announcing the launch of the new bus. They say that in Debrecen, passengers will be the first to test the Solaris hydrogen fuel cell bus in regular service.

The bus is part of the pilot project of HUMDA HUMDA Magyar Mobilitás-fejlesztési Ügynökség Zrt., a member of the Széchenyi University Group.

The vehicle will run on several routes for four weeks and will return for another four weeks in six months. Passengers will be able to try out the bus, which is free of charge, has no local air pollution and very low noise emissions.

The 12-metre Solaris Urbino 12 electric H2 bus, with a capacity of 89 passengers and a three-door door, will be in service in Debrecen until the 1st of February, after which it will be in service in Miskolc, Kecskemét, Kaposvár, Zalaegerszeg and Győr for a month, and then will return to the same locations. This will allow operational experience to be gathered in different weather conditions. The bus’s 70 kW hydrogen fuel cell produces electricity and water vapour as a by-product through the electrochemical reaction of pure hydrogen and atmospheric oxygen, and is powered by an electric motor. The experience gained over a year will not only help decision-makers but also convince passengers of the benefits of modern solutions.

“In addition to awareness-raising, the project aims to collect data and produce analyses based on comparisons with operational data from the Green Bus Programme. The data will be used to help those interested in clean vehicles and hydrogen technology to make purchasing decisions and to create solutions that make sense environmentally, technologically and economically. We will also organise a professional and career orientation day at each of the locations during the roadshow,” Virág Mészáros, CEO of HUMDA, said.

“We are proud to participate again in the hydrogen fuel cell bus sample project organised by HUMDA, as we had the opportunity to test the bus in the Budapest agglomeration the year before last,” he added.

The vehicle in the sample project is powered by a ZF AV 130 integrated electric motor and can cover a distance of 400-450 kilometres on a single charge of the composite hydrogen tanks on the roof, which have a total capacity of 1560 litres. The tanks can store a total of 36.8 kilograms of hydrogen gas. “We are particularly pleased that the Solaris Urbino 12 electric H2 bus is being tested in Debrecen, Hungary,” Tamás Szőke, Managing Director of Prim-Vol Trade Kft. and the Hungarian distributor of Solaris vehicles, said.

“Messer Hungarogáz Ltd. as a hydrogen manufacturer and technology expert will ensure the continuous supply of hydrogen fuel cell buses for 12 months at 6 rural locations. Our aim is to introduce public transport operators interested in hydrogen propulsion to the hydrogen fuel cell bus and to gain experience in hydrogen refuelling. The hydrogen refuelling service is carried out with a trailer hydrogen refuelling unit. The advantage of this technical solution is that it is quick and easy to commission and relocate, as the filling unit has to be installed at a new location every month, which we can do within one day,” Zsolt Bohner, Managing Director of Messer Hungarogáz Kft. emphasised.

HUMDA Magyar Autó-Motorsport és Zöld Mobilitás-fejlesztési Ügynökség Zrt. will continue the joint communication of the Green Bus Programme and the subsidy scheme for several electric vehicles under the HUMDA Green brand.

In 2023, holiday flights were even more popular than the year before. More than ten percent more people travelled with charter flights, and on average there were five percent more passengers on each plane.

In 2023, Debrecen International Airport had more than 306,000 passengers which is a 23 percent increase compared to 2022 and more than 300 percent compared to the year before that.

In mid-June, the first summer seasonal flight from Debrecen to the Greek island of Crete was started. The weekly charter was a convenient solution for many.

‘Basically, this increase is of course due to the appearance of new flights, but also to the return of the desire to travel, ‘ Tamás Király, managing director of Debrecen International Airport Ltd. said.

Developments were also continuous at the airport. In order to prepare for larger investments, they began to demolish the deteriorated concrete pavement.

Meanwhile, a new, faster passenger security system was put into operation at the airport. Thanks to the so-called two-view X-ray equipment, the passenger entry has become much more comfortable.

‘This resulted in a capacity increase of more than thirty percent. The passengers received it very positively, because they can go through the passenger security checks more conveniently and quickly, ‘ the manager emphasised.

The Debrecen airport is also planning to launch new flights, and the summer charter season is expected to increase traffic. In addition, energy upgrades are planned in 2024 and the ground service fleet is expected to be expanded.

The completion of the Görbeház junction will rectify a nearly two-decade-old mistake, creating a high-speed link between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza.

The final phase of the Görbeház motorway interchange, which took just over a year and a half to complete, has been handed over.

From the M3 motorway connecting Budapest and Nyíregyháza, the M35 motorway leads to Debrecen. The 35-kilometre motorway was opened in December 2006, but the junction of the two motorways at Görbeháza was not completed.

For the past 17 years, the branches that would have carried traffic from one motorway to the other in the Debrecen-Nyíregyháza and Nyíregyháza-Debrecen directions have been missing. Before the junction, the two directions were accessible by national road only, and the completion of the junction has now changed this.

The Nyíregyháza-Debrecen route has been shortened by 25 kilometres with the construction of an overpass.

It is still ten kilometres longer than the distance between the two duchies on Highway 4, but the expressway link could significantly benefit transit and freight traffic. It is also safer in bad weather.

At the inauguration ceremony, Tünde Szabó, the government commissioner responsible for the complex development of the North-Eastern Hungary Economic Development Zone, said that the direct high-speed link between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza would bring a new level of cooperation opportunities.

MP Lajos Kósa stressed the responsibility of the socialist governments for not having built the junction entirely, although it was planned to be so; however, at the request of the Socialist-led county government, the money was spent elsewhere on a pointless investment. As previously mentioned, socialists have had problems with road junctions. Lajos Kósa believes this development could also reduce the congestion on the main road 4.

László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, said the project was of great importance for the region’s development. He noted that the Debrecen-Miskolc-Nyíregyháza area is the new development centre of the country, and thanks to the ongoing processes, Eastern Hungary is entering an entirely new dimension in terms of economic power. He added that the region’s economic development will lead to a significant increase in freight traffic, and it is important that it avoids the cities, with trucks using the motorways for the most part.

Zoltán Nyul, deputy state secretary for civil engineering at the Ministry of Construction and Transport, said that the planning for the four-lane motorway 4 between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza is also underway and that the environmental permit will be granted by spring.

The final stage of the Görbeház motorway junction was built by Zemplénkő Kelet-magyarországi Építőipari Fővállalkozó és Bányászati Kft. for HUF 4.9 billion from state funds.

Most thyroid operations are performed at the Department of Surgery of the University of Debrecen Clinical Center in Hungary, and the specialists of the institution have the most experience in the application of the indocyanine green technique in our country.

State-of-the-art procedures were presented to Hungarian specialists in lectures and live surgery broadcasts as part of an onco-surgery course, the University of Debrecen reported.

On the first day of the training, lectures were given on the current issues of laparoscopic gastric cancer surgery and the most modern treatment options for well-differentiated tumours of the thyroid gland. The latest procedures were presented at the Debrecen Surgery Clinic. In both cases, the participants could learn about the latest international studies and the guidelines based on them.

“In relation to gastric cancer surgery, we have presented the individualised treatment, the less radical types of surgery, which provide a better quality of life without compromising oncology, while for thyroid tumours, it is possible to perform less radical unilateral surgery for larger tumours. With regard to gastric cancer, we are the only hospital in Hungary to use the Maruyama computer program based on an extensive database, and we have the most experience in the field of sentinel node biopsy in Hungary and even in the Eastern European region,” Dezső Tóth, Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Surgery at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre, said.

On the second day of the training, the surgeons who had registered for the training had the opportunity to watch a live surgical broadcast of a total thyroidectomy with modified radical cervical lymph node dissection, laparoscopic gastrectomy and extended surgery for pancreatic cancer, among others, and to gain insight into the potential of indocyanine green, one of the newest procedures in thyroid cancer and gastric cancer surgery.

The technique is most widely used in Hungary at the Debrecen Surgical Clinic.

“This training is based on live surgical demonstrations, which is perhaps the greatest added value in the surgical profession for the participants and guests. As the director, I consider it important to organise similar programmes, which have become a tradition in the institution over the last two years. Twice a year, we organise demonstration surgeries; in the spring, we had an Indocyanine Green (ICG) based training under the auspices of the International Society, and now we’ve presented advanced oncosurgery,” the clinic director said.

Both the participants and the surgical clinicians who conducted the course rated the training as a success, especially as the limited enrolment ensured that the guests had the opportunity to be present in person. Thus, one of the most important forms of continuing education in surgical training was achieved, where surgical technique and complication management principles were introduced.

PwC, one of the world’s leading financial and business advisory firms, opens an office in Debrecen.

“Debrecen is the city of the future, and we have to be there in the future,” Tamás Lőcsei, CEO of PwC Hungary, said at the announcement.

Tamás Lőcsei said they have more than 1,100 employees in the country, providing audit, tax, legal, business and financial advisory services and solving cyber security problems.

“Debrecen is the city of the future, and we have to be there in the future; Debrecen is the second engine of the country,” he said, adding that the city’s development will significantly expand its regional reach in the future, up to five times as much. As he said, they have been helping businesses in Debrecen, but now they can continue this by running their own office.

“After a long courtship, the match has been made” – László Papp, Mayor of Debcen, began his speech. The mayor said that he met Tamás Lőcsei ten years ago, and from the very first moment, he thought about how to attract one of the world’s most prestigious consultancies to Debrecen because it has great prestige.

“I had to realise that PwC didn’t just need a city with good assets, but that PwC wanted a city with good assets, economically successful, with a strong corporate background and outstanding educational potential. A city whose success can also contribute to the success of the company,” László Papp said, adding that Debrecen has developed into such a city over the past ten years.

Referring back to what Tamás Lőcsei said about Debrecen’s regional role, the mayor said that in addition to the city’s regional influence, Debrecen and the region’s economic performance will also quintuple between 2020 and 2030.

“Debrecen today represents reliability, stability, quality and opportunity for the business world. These are the defining characteristics of Debrecen today, and PwC’s decision confirms this,” the mayor pointed out.

He emphasised that, in addition to the establishment of the EDC Debrecen City and Economic Development Centre and the development of industrial parks, the decision to strengthen the education system in Debrecen was also a good one, as it provides the labour market background for Debrecen’s development.

“We are determined that the winners in the development of the Debrecen economy should be the talented people of Debrecen who want to work. All the talent we keep in Debrecen is a building block for the city’s successful future. We imagine the future with them, we are building on them, and they are the ones who can deal with the challenges of the labour market in the long term, which is why we are doing everything we can to create jobs offering competitive wages, a modern working environment and high added value, just like the ones PwC is creating in Debrecen.” he said.

Norbert Izer, State Secretary for Tax Affairs at the Ministry of Finance, gave a presentation on the direction of the tax system, at the end of which he said that the presence of a renowned consultancy firm like PwC in a rural town is a niche, and it is also a sign that the town has grown up to the level of development that is characteristic of world cities.

The construction of the catering pavilion on Petőfi Square has been completed, József Hetei, the municipal representative of the district, announced on 10th of November 2023. The investment of nearly HUF 180 million was paid for by the municipality from EU funds. The renovation of Petőfi Square is now complete.

Petőfi Square in Debrecen was inaugurated in mid-November last year after a complete reconstruction. József Hetei recalled that during the HUF 900 million EU-funded project, around 6,000 square metres of grass was renovated, and the contractor also planted 3,000 square metres of shrubs and perennials, as well as 85 trees. A modern 750 m2 playground with 12 playground equipment was built. The statue of Petőfi, inaugurated 73 years ago, has already undergone a complete reconstruction, including its pedestal and the steps leading up to it. An educational trail on the history of the town has been created, commemorating the pre-World War II square. Street furniture has been replaced, benches, designer seating, litter bins and bicycle racks have been installed. The square has also been equipped with 14 high-resolution public security cameras with image processing intelligence, which can operate in extreme light and environmental conditions. The pedestrian zones around the square, several car parks and the intersection of Holló János and Piac streets have also been renovated. The square’s centrepiece is an artificial pond.

A catering pavilion has been built on the shore of the pond. The 179-square-metre building has indoor and outdoor consumer areas. The pavilion building also houses a public, barrier-free, automatic toilet facility that can be used by people on the square, as it has a door on the outside.

József Hetei told a local newspaper that the catering pavilion will be managed by Cívis Ház Zrt., the company that manages the city’s real estate assets, and will be leased out for operation. The operator will have to equip the pavilion with the necessary equipment and furniture for cooking and hosting guests. The pavilion is expected to open to guests in the first quarter of 2024.

The representative said that the completely renovated Petőfi Square will provide a beautiful, safe and family-friendly environment for both visitors and visitors to Debrecen.
