Each year on the third Monday of February, Presidents Day is observed. The date aligns with the birthday of president George Washington, which falls on Feb. 22. Though the February holiday was originally designated to mark Washington's birthday, it's since come to represent and pay tribute to all U.S. presidents.
This year, Presidents Day lands on Monday, Feb. 17. In observance of the day, many cities and states across America will host public celebrations and various gatherings to honor the occasion.
Given that Presidents Day is a federal holiday, many people and students have the day off from work and school. A majority of government agencies and offices are also closed in observance of the day.
But what about the USPS? Is the post office open for business on Presidents Day and will there be mail delivery on Monday, Feb. 17? Is the post office open on Presidents Day 2025? Will mail be delivered?
Like all other federal holidays, the post office will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17 in observance of Presidents Day. That means branches won’t be open and there won't be mail delivery.
Since the USPS is routinely closed on Sundays, if you’re waiting on an important letter or need to send off a package, you’ll either need to take care of business before then, or wait until Tuesday, Feb. 18, when the post office reopens and delivery resumes.
Though post office branches will be closed on Feb. 17, mail can be dropped into blue USPS collection boxes, however it won't be collected until the next day.
Is UPS open on Presidents Day 2025?
Though the post office is closed on Presidents Day, UPS is operating as usual, picking up and delivering on Feb. 17.
According to the delivery service’s website, “UPS pickup and delivery services are available” on Feb. 17 with one caveat, which is that UPS SurePost and UPS Mail Innovations deliveries will require one additional business day due to the holiday.
