Continental started building its plant in Debrecen in the Southern Industrial Park just two years ago. Since the Autumn of 2019 the Continental Powertrain division has been operating in Hungary as an independent company named and branded “Vitesco Technologies”.
It is planned that 450 people will work in the factory, but so far 200 have been hired.
In an interview with the local newspaper dehir.hu, Managing Director of Vitesco Technologies Hungary Kft. Lukas Juranek explained that the two-hundredth employee of Vitesco Technologies will join the company this December and that they are pleased to be able to keep their recruitment plan in place, despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19.
In 2021, a large number of staff committed to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable mobility will be hired. It will be possible to apply primarily for blue-collar professionals to join the company. The new colleagues will no longer start their training at the temporary site, but at the factory unit built in the Southern Industrial Park.
Vitesco Technologies is one of the first plants in Debrecen to launch a new and worldwide unique manufacturing process for transmission control units, the CEO said.
Vitesco Technologies is not the only company in the Southern Industrial Park. The German Krones and Deufol factories from Germany also operate here. The new logistics center of BHS Trans Kft. is due for completion in June 2021; while ITK Holding’s larger bus factory will be built in the industrial park. Last but not least it was recently announced that the Chinese company Semcorp will establish a plant in Debrecen for HUF 65 billion for the production of separator foils for electric car batteries.
These companies are creating more than two thousand new jobs. According to the latest information of the Municipality further investors are expect and more than ten thousand people will be able to work in the Southern Industrial Park in the future.
The five-lane roundabout at the industrial park has been completed, and its internal road network will soon be expanded. The Municipality of Debrecen has now issued a public procurement for the construction of another one-and-a-half-kilometre of road.
