The investment is in addition to the previously announced HUF 130 billion for a local infrastructure development program, the purpose of which was to turn the region into an international business, education and innovation hub.

The 35 billion HUF (106 million Euro) will be for a complex school infrastructure programme to put in place an education system to meet the needs of the next generation of students and employers in the city.

The funding will enable the foundation of additional technician training at existing local vocational schools starting Autumn 2020.

The ministry responsible, led by László Palkovics, Hungary’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, announced that the program will include funding for an automotive laboratory and a technical faculty wing at Debrecen University, this is no doubt in response to the development of a new BMW plant in the city which begin construction in the Spring of 2020 with production starting in the summer of 2023 according to Dürr, BMW’s paint supply partner.

Additionally, due to the increasing number of German businesses in the area (including BMW) there will be a German-language primary and secondary school put in place, along with a new curriculum to facilitate dual education in local schools.
