It has been discussed several times that a German-language primary school is planned in Debrecen, as more and more German companies including BMW, Krones, Schaeffler, Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions (formerly IT Services), Deufol, Bürkle, Vitesco Technologies, Diehl Aviation, Manz AG, Amazonen-Werke and Thyssenkrupp, are settling in the city.
The German-language will be created by renovating and remodeling the former lower-class building of the Vénkerti Primary School.
The government will provide HUF 1 billion 308 million for the construction work, as published in the latest issue of the Hungarian Gazette.
The investment financed from state resources will be managed by a state-owned company, BMSK Investment, Technical Development, Sports Management and Public Procurement Ltd. Based on the construction plans, the task is the complete exterior-interior and energy renovation and furnishing of the one-story building with four wings and will comprise of a useful floor area of 1,500 square meters. It also includes the reconstruction of the green areas of the property.
Mester-Építő Kft., a company based in Budapest, won the renovation tender with a net offer of HUF 922, million 710,000. This amount is lower than the government subsidy, so it is also possible to purchase assets.
The tender winner will have one year to complete the work.
Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa, the local government representative of Vénkert, said that the German-language schools already have a history, as bilingual classes were started in the Dózsa György Primary School, and the Csokonai Gymnasium also has German-language education. The new German-language primary school will welcome children from September 2022.
