A Unique Health Screening Program is Launched in Debrecen

The new initiative focuses on young people, who will be able to attend all-day organized screenings once every two years at the now-established Pósa Street Health Center.

As part of the Caring City program of the New Phoenix Plan, the city is launching a unique health screening program for young people that is unique in the country.

The Pósa Street Center will examine 19,000 preschool and school children each year, including their teeth, hearing, and vision.

“The tests will be done at the center here on Pósa Street. We will take the children here by bus and in the framework of a “Health Day”, all children will receive the care they need to develop healthily,” said Diana Széles, Deputy Mayor.

As part of the program, dental, vision, hearing and musculoskeletal screenings will be performed, but there will also be personalized lifestyle counselling.

The service is for students of municipal institutions, but also students in church, university, and DSZC-run institutions, all children from kindergarten to the end of compulsory schooling can take part in the program and receive the free healthcare check.

In addition to the University of Debrecen, the city has also partnered with the Debrecen Institute for Primary Care and Health Development.

Parents can also learn about the results of the tests, so they can treat any abnormalities in a timely manner, and even help them to choose a sport.

Once the construction of the center is complete, screenings will begin in earnest.
