On the occasion of the Day of Debrecen City, the General Assembly awarded honorary citizen with Pro Urbe, Patronage and press prizes.
11th of April is an important day for Debrecen. It is the day when we celebrate Debrecen becoming a free royal city. The declaration was given to Debrecen in 1693 by King I. Lipót.
In the morning, the programs started at the Piac street and in the Old Town Hall. The flag of the city was solemnly celebrated with the help of the Debrecen Garrison Orchestra, and the balloons that brought the colors of the city were released into the air by pre-preschoolers and the city leaders.
A ceremonial General Assembly Meeting was held by the council of the Municipality of Debrecen
In the evening, citizens of Debrecen were awarded at the ball of the city.
Dr. János Barta, professor emeritus, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and Sciences was awarded as honorary citizen of Debrecen.
Dr. Romolusz Ruszin, Brigadier General; Mrs. Török Lenke Csécs, dance-educator, folk dancer; and Mr. László Varga, former head of the Department of Urban-Development at Debrecen Municipal Government have received Pro-Urbe prizes.
Mr. László Bárány, the founder and owner of the Group Master Food and Mr. Péter Szabó, managing director of FAG Hungary Industrial Kft. were awarded with
the Prize of the Maecenas of the City.
The Press Award was given to Ms. Judit Tóth, editor and radio-reporter of FM 90 Campus Radio.
A ’’Ferenc Kölcsey stipend” was awarded to Mr. Albin Bálint, stage director, in order to contribute to the creation of a symphonic concert-theatrical performance of the musicial ’’Légy jó mindhalálig” (Be good till the end).
Debrecen’s General Meeting founded the scholarship named “Ferenc Kölcsey” after its namesake to support amateur and professional artists and artistic groups in Debrecen in 2006. In 2019, the scholarship was given to Bálint Albin, director and the Lautitia Musical Association for the developing the symphonic concert version of the play “Be Faithful Unto Death”.
