According to a cooperation agreement concluded between Debrecen International Airport Kft. and Aviation Cultural Center Public Benefit Nonprofit Ltd. (LKK), – which operates the Aeropark aviation museum at Liszt Ferenc Airport Ferihegy for the last eight years, – the tours will start as soon as scheduled flights return to Debrecen International Airport.
The airport staff will welcome kindergarten and school groups with content tailored to the needs of the given age group. The groups can watch departing and arriving Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s, visit one of the old hangars and learn about the work of airport firefighters. Visitors will also be shown what happens in the rather short 30-minute turnaround times of flights, and how to prepare a 180-seat plane for its next trip during the three-hour airport visits.
Tour guides will also explain in detail, who has what role on the ground, what service work is needed for an airplane to take off, and how flight information and air traffic controllers work in the tower and control center. Visitors will also learn about the military past of Debrecen Airport and how it has become a key airport in the region in the past decade.
