The aim of the event “Emerging Europe Leaders’ Conference & Awards” held in London was to draw attention to the emerging region of Europe, to present their developments and innovative ideas.
Prizes were given in seventeen categories and hundreds of participants applied. Richter Gedeon came first in its category, while Debrecen came third behind Vilnius and Poznan at the event “Emerging Europe Leaders’ Meeting & Awards”, shows that Debrecen’s aspirations are being recognized.
Since 2014, Debrecen has been undergoing rapid economic development. Between 2014 and 2018, approximately 600 billion HUF was invested in Debrecen and more than 6,000 new jobs created. In 2017 Debrecen was awarded the “City of the Year” and the “Best Business Environment of the Year” awards.
Richter Gedeon has expanded significantly over the years
Erik Bogsch, Deputy Director of Biotechnology Development and Production of Richter Gedeon, thanked Debrecen for the joint application for Emerging Europe to promote the city.
“The plant of Richter Gedeon has grown significantly over the years, with more than three hundred colleagues working at the Debrecen plant,” said the deputy director.
László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, emphasized that the company was the ally of the city in winning in the R&D category. The Mayor pointed out that more than 6,000 new jobs were created between 2014 and 2018.
“The goal is to make Debrecen as international as possible, and Richter Gedeon contributes greatly to this,” the mayor said.
Within the emerging European region, Debrecen was ranked the top 10 in the list, the city is the third most attractive investment destination. With a history of 600-700 thousand inhabitants, Debrecen has a great history and has achieved a good result – László Papp highlighted, and thanked the companies who chose Debrecen for cooperation.
“There were 900 applicants in the competition in different categories, with about 120 candidates per category. The everyday life of biotechnology companies goes hand in hand with innovation. The city, the vocational training, the expert team of the university and the development of the industrial parks contribute a lot to make this industry profitable”, said Balázs Kiss, Head of Department of Biotechnology of Richter Gedeon.
