Debrecen is one of the most dynamically developing cities in Hungary, but its leaders dream about making Debrecen the new business centre, not only of Hungary but the Central European region.
The ambitious economic development goals of Debrecen set in the New Phoenix Plan have been fulfilled. During the last four years, the leaders of the city announced more than HUF 500 billion investment and 6,000 new jobs. Debrecen not only looks for big investors, but also small and medium companies are equally welcome to the city.
The Municipality of Debrecen established EDC (Debrecen Urban and Economic Development Center) to promote and attract investment to the city from companies of any size and EDC has done a splendid job winning companies like Krones, Continental and even BMW.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Debrecen Are Satisfied
EDC, Debrecen Urban and Economic Development Center conducted a survey among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Debrecen with the aim to see how satisfied local entrepreneurs are with the urban business environment.
The survey revealed that 3 of the 4 entrepreneurs would invest in Debrecen, but it has also revealed that companies find administration not fast and efficient enough. In response to the results of the research, the Mayor’s Office created the Business Information Point at the New Town Hall.
“Our main goal is to help the entrepreneurs in Debrecen. We have created a Business Information Point to provide businesses with faster and more effective administration” , said Mayor Papp László.
At the Business Information Point, local authorities support business with administration tasks and questions such as those below:
- technical procedures for dismantling and constructing buildings
- taxes (local taxes, electronic declarations, tax rebates, exemptions)
- administrative (site permits, conditions for starting business) and
- building (regulatory issues) matters.
From the homepage “debrecen.com”, entrepreneurs can easily access the page where they can book an appointment. In addition to the mandatory details, the entrepreneurs should specify the subject to make appointment with the necessary officials. The design of the client space enables entrepreneurs to handle their issues comfortably and discreetly”, said Antal Szekeres, Principal Registrar.
The goal of the new system is to help all local micro, small and medium enterprises to manage their businesses quickly, effectively and transparently.
