European Mobility Week and Car-Free Day in Debrecen

Debrecen has joined the European Mobility Week and Car-Free Day initiative, organized from 16 to 22 September 2019 in over 2,500 cities in Europe.

This year, Debrecen focuses on raising awareness of environmental-friendly and sustainable transport and showcases the widest possible range of alternative modes of transport.

DKV Zrt., the main coordinator of the program prepared a weekly series of programs including “VAT”? Mobility!“ program organized for toddlers, Primary and Secondary School children. The program provides children with the opportunity to learn about the environment and the importance of environmental protection under the help and guidance of teachers.

DERKE organizes a “Get There Race“. The aim of the event is to cover the same distance car, bike, and tram while complying with the Highway Code. The trip is filmed and screened on September 22, 2019, at Car Free Day.

Colourfull programs on 22nd September in the Great Forest Area

A closing event will be held at the Great Forest on 22 September beside the Mist Theatre. Visitors can participate in the different activities of the HBM Police Headquarters, the Accident Prevention Committee, the HBM Disaster Management team, the Hungarian Red Cross, the National Emergency Reserve, Debrecen Airport, DV Parking Kft, DERKE, Zsuzsi Forest Railway, Foundation Tündérkör, DSZC Mechwart András Vocational Grammar School, Nimendee Ltd., DKSI and the Institute of Transport Science.

The Foundation of Tündérkör will launch air balloons around the Great Forest Stadium up to the height of 1,800 meters to promote fresh air. DKSI will organize a bike competition, while DKV will host the Road Trip public transport competition. “Nimendee” has announced a race for segway lovers.

The DSzC Mechwart András Technical School of Engineering and Information Technology awaits the visitors with Lego robots, which can be guided remotely through obstacle courses.

Visitors can also participate in a trolley tour organized by DKV, taking place around the Great Forest, alternatively, take a ride in a carriage on the old line of train 3 to celebrate the 135th anniversary of the company.

In addition to colourful professional programs, music programs will be also offered for those interested. Children and Adult Music Programs will begin at 12 noon including Tibi Réti, Kuckó Művésztanya, Valcer Dance Studio, Rock Suli and closing the program by the well-known Desperado band at 6 pm.
