5th Anniversary of Agóra

You can celebrate the fifth birthday of Agóra, the Science and Adventure Center, with extraordinary programs, a mini-exhibition, exciting science lectures and educational activities on the 8th and 9th, February 2020,
You can find out about, for example, who was the ecclesiastic and botanist of Debrecen. Learn why István Hatvani the Hungarian mathematician was named as the “Hungarian Faust” in the 18th century.
The event will be hosted by Róbert Zsiros, host of a series of entertaining internet tutorials show called the “Szertár”. He will bring a special experimental presentation to Agóra this weekend. In addition to the programs, anyone can try all science games in the interactive space or participate in diverse science programs.
The programs below can be visited free of charge, but only upon prior registration and confirmation.
Robot Show: During the demonstration, you will see robots fighting each other on a sumo racing track. You can also get to know and control the Xiaomi MITU 978 remote and programmable robot, move a two-legged humanoid robot or R2D2 built from LittleBits circuits or even chase an Edison robot with a flashlight.
You can attend it 10 AM – 11 AM or 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM on both days.
Herbs Show: Children can learn about the beneficial effects of herbs, taste and smell special herbs. In addition, participants will be introduced to the botanist of Debrecen who wrote the first book on Hungarian herbs.
You can attend it 10:30 AM, 12:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 4:30 PM, 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM on both days.
Science Show: Róbert Zsiros makes the world of science exciting with a humorous science show, tricks, logical tasks and occasionally inevitable explosions.

Great Forest Show: Eighty years ago, when part of the Great Forest Debrecen was registered in the Directory of Nature Reserve, it was the first nature conservation area in Hungary. By 1992, almost 1100 hectares of forest had been declared protected. The Great Forest is home to many species of flora and fauna that are protected by nature, and it still hosts 200-300 years old peduncle oaks. The interactive presentation will show the conservation values of the forest.

Kaba Meteorite Show: In 1857, a meteorite fell from the sky near the village of Kaba. The stone has become one of the most famous meteorites in the country and in the world. The lecture will show exactly where the famous Kabe limestone has fallen, why it’s so special and what legends surround it. You can also hold a copy of the stone made with the Agora 3D Printer.

Hungarian inventions: There some inventions that made Hungarian scientists world-famous including Ányos Jedlik’s dynamo, Tivadar Puskás’s phone announcer, László Bíró ball pen or János Neumann’s computer. You can also learn about the latest Hungarian inventions such as the flying bike “FLIKE”, the Leonar3Do program or the strange Gömböc.
