The festive season is upon us and there are plenty of activities besides the obligatory shopping to do. This includes Christmas concerts. This year, just as every year, there is plenty of festive musical events to en volk the Christmas spirit, with something for everyone. This year’s lineup includes the following.
Gergely Rákász – Christmas Stories

Gergely Kárász, organist, gave his first organ concert at the age of 15, and then continued to perform throughout Hungary during his school years. At such a young age, the American organist David DiFiore noticed him and invited him to study and perform in the United States. In addition to giving concerts, he edited the Intermezzo program of the Hungarian Radio until 2002, in order to make the classics widely known and popular with the students. In 2004, he was called among the ranks of the Knights Templar and he was made a knight. This year you can experience Gergely Rákász’s Christmas concerts, with pieces from Bach, Händel, Berlioz and Holst at the Small Reformed Church.
Advertissimo – Concert of the Debrecen Garrison Orchestra
December 1 • 7 – 9 PM • Kölcsey Center
The four candles in the Advent wreath symbolizes faith, hope, love and joy. As we approach the holiday, the world becomes silent and still for those celebrating without loved ones. It is particularly difficult for soldiers serving their homeland overseas, unable to return. They often celebrate twice, once with their loved ones and family, and once in a less peaceful side of the world.
December 11 • 7 – 9:00 PM • Kölcsey Center
Budapest Bar is an intoxicating music cocktail of Gypsy virtuosity, infused with rock’n’roll energy. The wildly popular Gypsy band teams up with a rotating roster of singers bringing international and Hungarian rock, underground and jazz to the stage. The Budapest Bar will be 12 years old at the end of 2019. In 12 years they have released 10 albums and a BEST OF album. During this time, the band provided a special musical experience for approximately 100,000 people at approximately 1,000 concerts. Their concerts are great entertainment.
