Deep Currents Photo Exhibition
December 14 @ 10:00 am – March 15 @ 6:00 pm
The Deep Currents exhibition, organized by MODEM and the Budapest Photo Festival, invites visitors to an exciting discovery. The large-scale exhibition shows the parallels, relationships, and often hidden but still existing deep currents in Hungarian photography.
In addition to the original works of the world-famous forerunners – including Brassaï, Lucien Hervé, Paul Almasy – we can also learn about many works of contemporary Hungarian photography.
One of the terrains of the dialogue is a selection that explores the deep currents in classical and contemporary gestures, presenting the photographic collection of the Szöllősi-Nagy-Nemes art collector duo. Works by Dóra Maurer, Sándor Trauner, Emese Miskolczi, Kata Sugár, György Tóth and many other artists, complemented by works of some non-Hungarian classics, František Drtikol or Nadar.
In the other part of the exhibition, more than fifty Hungarian photographers interact with each other on the walls of the exhibition halls, reflecting on contemporary photography exhibitions for the third year in the framework of the Budapest Photo Festival,
Starting from these special “genre” exhibitions, the present collection, even with their collector’s collection, can reveal the deep currents in Hungarian photography in a more focused and complex way. That is, today’s interpretations of classical genres, more distant and recent eminent artists present themselves to the Debrecen audience in a joint exhibition with contemporary artists. The richness of the present and the precious heritage of the past promises not only lessons but also an exploration experience for visitors.
