Exhibition of Biblical Stamps in the Reformed Great Church of Debrecen
February 23, 2020 @ 8:00 am - June 15, 2020 @ 5:00 pm
This temporary exhibition displays the Stamp collection of the Pastor of the Reformed Great Church.
Visitors to this exhibition will be able to view biblical stamps from more than a hundred countries. Attila Kocsis, also pastor of the East Hungarian Reformed Parenting Network, has been a passionate collector of Christian-themed Christmas stamps since he was a child and is showing his collection for the first time in this temporary exhibition.
The exhibition features the world’s first stamp showing a Christmas motif. Of special note is a stamp issued by Hungary in 1943. Later he added stamps depicting biblical stories, verbs, churches, and monasteries to his collection.
The thematic collection provides visitors with an insight into the background of the historical events and provides an introduction to the important sites and prominent figures of the Reformation.
For the first time in a temporary exhibition, the public will see the stamp in which II. Pope John Paul recorded a visit to Debrecen in 1991. A series of the Pope’s travels abroad was published in the Gambia, one of which was published in II. Pope John Paul and Reformed Bishop Elemer Kocsis are at the Lord’s table.
Visitors are invited to play at the exhibition and the participants in the quiz can receive a prize. The exhibition is open until 15th June 2020 at the Calvin János Gallery of the Great Reformed Church.
