“Debrecen, the second capital of the country, would take the opportunity of hosting the Hungarian House of innovation as a priority”, stated László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, on the last General Assembly.
The Assembly approved the motion with 30 votes in favor, one vote against and one abstention, thus expressing its intention to cooperate with the Government of Hungary to build the Hungarian House of Innovation in Debrecen.
The General Assembly with 30 votes in favor and two abstentions, also supported the idea of “the organization of the 2023 IAAF Athletics World Cup in Debecen”. The mayor recalled that over fifty major races, including world and European championships in various sports, had been held successfully in the city over the past twenty years. “Debrecen is prepared to host the World Athletics Championships”, added László Papp.
The Assembly authorized the Mayor to notify the President of the Hungarian Athletic Association of the decision and to conduct the necessary negotiations.
The letters of intent were inspired by the fact that Budapest seems to be renouncing both the construction of the facility as part of the Liget Budapest Project and the organization of the World Athletics Event.
