Ice Age Interactive Animal Show Starts at Nyíregyháza Zoo

Now, a new investment is being made to create an Ice Age interactive animal show at Nyíregyháza Zoo.

The Nyíregyháza Zoo is the most visited rural tourist attraction in Hungary. Approximately 400,000 guests visited the zoo last year. The zoo covers 300,000 square meters and is home to a vast array of animals — 500 species in total, and 5,000 individual specimens in Sóstó Forest.

Several improvements have been made at the zoo in recent years, including the opening a new hotel in the zoo area, the addition of an oceanarium, a South American house and a tropical house.

Now, a new investment is being made to create an Ice Age interactive animal show. The attraction will be unique in Europe, as there is nothing else like it on the continent. The new facility will present now-extinct Ice Age fauna. With the help of animatronic technology, animals that lived 20,000 years ago will be “brought back to life”. The state is providing HUF 3.2 billion in support of the project, which will cost a total of HUF 6.3 billion and could be completed by the end of 2022.

In addition, an indoor penguin area, various aquariums and a new polar bear pool will also be housed in the new building.

Meanwhile, another development, the House of India, is almost finished. The zoo team is now working on the interior of the building. This HUF 820 million project will present the wildlife of the Indian subcontinent, including Indian rhinos. There will also be a shark pool, bird house and turtle area, as well as a 60-seat training and community space.
