The International School of Debrecen: The Future of Education

The International School of Debrecen is the first private, international school in Debrecen.

International School of Debrecen (ISD) is a new, international, private school located in Debrecen. The school has not open its doors yet but is already famous for its futuristic building, its glass-walls and outdoor classrooms.

The International School of Debrecen (ISD) will be built in Pallag, – a small, safe and luxurious suburban area of Debrecen, that is directly next to the Great Forest.

The International School of Debrecen (ISD) is one of the most important development projects of Debrecen. The school claims to be “not just another English-language school”, but an institution that wishes to teach a global and effective pedagogical model, the International Baccalaureate Program (IBO) according to its business plan, released in 2017.

“The aim of the International School of Debrecen (ISD) is to provide parents with answers to what to teach their children in a rapidly changing world” – said Mr. János Öreg, the recently appointed director of the school.

International School of Debrecen: Only the best for students

The International School of Debrecen (ISD) works on “giving balanced, well-prepared, motivated young adults to the world” who are capable to think creatively and critically.

It is an open secret that Mr. Öreg hopes that the students of the school can get in the world’s top universities including Harvard, MIT, Sorbonne, Oxford, or Cambridge or create stock exchange registered start-ups once they graduate.

The school claims that its teaching method will be different from the education model of the traditional, state-owned educational institutions.

They will teach students subjects, but the usual hierarchy (languages-nature-social science art) will be overwritten. Subjects will be taught “project-based”, “experience-based” basis and synergistically.

For example, if children need to build a windmill, they will work in a group of 3-5 and everyone will have a task. Doing so, they will learn multiple subjects including math, physics, design, drawing, technology, literature, geography and history, – and at the end of the project, they should present their working windmill.

During the building process they will “work” like in real life, – they will practice and learn teamwork, communication and constructive criticism, not only subjects.

The achievements of the students will not be measured by grades, parents will receive a short textual evaluation. The school will have a timetable, “but it won’t have a bell, and the lessons will last as long as needed”, stated Mr. Öreg.

Parents do not have to take their children to special lessons after school, because students can take part in diverse extracurricular activities automatically.

How can you get your child enrolled into the International School of Debrecen?

If you are interested to enrol your child into the International School of Debrecen (ISD), you should pass the “application process” (meeting with the school management), and you should be able to pay the tuition fee that varies from 2.4-4.7 million HUF per school year depending on classes and age groups.

The local government is planning to provide future students with a 100% financed scholarship, while the school might also release another, partial supported scholarship. The school awaits local and foreign students, but its primary target group are the children of the managers of large foreign companies.
