More and More Are Joining the Municipal Aid Fund

At the end of March, László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, announced the creation of a Municipal Aid Fund to provide further assistance to those in need in Debrecen. HUF 20 million will be provided from the city budget to the fund. In addition, the mayor has offered his April salary as well.

The mayor stressed that the coronavirus crisis would cause serious damage to the economy of Debrecen, families could be in a difficult situation and people could temporarily lose their jobs.

In the past few weeks, more and more individuals and companies have joined the Fund. The Hungarian-Chinese Economic Development Foundation and several business leaders of the Hungarian-Chinese community have joined. The Fund was initiated by Mayor László Papp. In consultation with city leaders, 35 Lenovo tablets will be distributed to help disadvantaged students to learn at home. Furthermore both, Gastro-Hús Kft. and Glad Humán Kft., donated 1.5 million HUF, of which 711 long-lasting food packages were compiled by the volunteers of the Debrecen Charitable Association and distributed to people in need.
