The public procurement of the municipality for the construction of bicycle paths has been successful. New cycling paths will be built in the city in the near future.
A 288-meter cycle path will be built on Wesselényi út, thus continueing from the path built so far up to Keletterv building and will continue to the Vágóhíd Street overpass. On the Vágóhíd Street overpassing the Lion Office Center where there are several companies present including NAV Hajdú-Bihar County Tax and Customs Directorate, Flowserve and Diehl, a 582-meter-long separated pedestrian and bicycle path will be built. The builder is Közmű Generál Kft from Nyíregyháza. The value of the investment is net HUF 49 million.

The other cycling investment is an almost 3 and a half kilometer cycle path on Diószegi út. Its starting point will be the junction of Vágóhíd utca – Diószegi út – Bihari utca, and its endpoint will be the intersection of Diószegi út and Sikló utca. This work will be performed by D-Profil Kft. The work to be undertaken is for a net amount of HUF 224 million and for which the municipality of Debrecen won EU funding for the investments.

Last but not least, the bicycle route will continue from Sikló Street to Panoráma út, and public procurement has already been announced for the construction of this section too. According to the call to tender, the 2,700-meter cycle path would be more than two meters wide along its entire length and would serve tourist purposes in addition to public transport. The local government won nearly HUF 250 million in EU funding for the investment in the tender of the Regional and Settlement Development Operational Program.
When all three sections are complete, it will be possible to turn from the Eastern Plan to Panorama Road.
Currently, a bike path is being built on the west side of the city too. The nearly three-meter-wide walking and cycling path will start on Kishatár Street leading to the Auchan Department Store and will run along Kishatár and Torockó Streets until the junction of Kunhalom Street. Through the bicycle path, the industrial park located in the western part of Debrecen, as well as the various department stores, will be safely accessible by bicycle. The contractor must complete the HUF 120 million investment by next spring.
