The Maczkó family had dreamed of a cottage where they could furnish their own craft house for many years. They wanted to show what they were up to including straw spinning and the beading.
In 2009, they found the right house in Szarvas-Ezüstszőlők. The atmosphere of the farm immediately enchanted them, and they knew immediately that they had found what they were looking for. They built a beautified Straw Farm.
Meanwhile, they learned the secrets of masonry, plaster, whitewash, and even furnace heating.
If you visit the arm you can take a look at the old-fashioned farmhouse (museum) an see straw-weaving tools, traditional and modern techniques, and many special items made of straw.
The herbal garden has a special garden with over fifty kinds of herbs and spices. In a short walk, you will learn all about their benefits and how they are used.
You can also taste many traditional local foods. Traditional pasta dishes baked in the oven, such as breadcrumbs, plum jam croissants, kapusznyíka (traditional pasta with cabbage filling – traditional Szarvas dishes) and home-made syrups and teas are also served.
During the approx. one-hour craft lesson you can make a small straw or pearl jewelry that you can take with you as a souvenir.
