The foundation stone of the biotechnological plant office building of the Richter Gedeon Plc. in Debrecen was placed down ceremoniously by Mr. László Papp, mayor of Debrecen, Mr. Lajos Kósa, member of Parliament, and Mr. Erik Bogsch, President of Richter Gedeon Plc.
The biotechnology plant of Gedeon Richter Plc., which plays a decisive role in Debrecen’s economy, started its operations in 2012 at the Határ street Industrial Park. Since then, significant improvements have been made, which resulted a further development in the bio similar manufacturing and research unit in 2016, and the Molecular Biological Laboratory was handed over in March 2018. With these steps, the total investment in Debrecen now exceeds 40 billion HUF.
However, with expanding the research and manufacturing capacity has increased the demand for the existing office infrastructure, and Richter Gedeon wishes to solve with investing an additional 2 billion HUF. To develop and maintain the new and modern building complex with community and office functions indicates as high quality as the company’s R+D and manufacturing processes. Richter Gedeon focuses on retaining the highly skilled and committed workforce in Hungary; thus the company wants to provide a more attractive and competitive environment for its employees.
“Richter’s strategic objective is to create a sophisticated and competitive biotechnology product line that will enable the expansion of the product portfolio with innovative and high intellectual value-added products. With the current investment, we would like to provide a working environment that encourages the retention and resettlement of a highly skilled workforce, thus supporting the implementation of our strategy” – said Erik Bogsch in his welcome speech, the President of Gedeon Richter Plc.
The excellent professional cooperation which is carried out in the last few years between the Local Government of Debrecen and the Richter Gedeon Plc. have played a significant role in launching the investment.
Mr.László Papp made a speech in the event where he pointed out: Debrecen has reached a station in the sense of economic development where the creation of new workplaces as important as the maintenance of competitiveness. This requires to make existing jobs more attractive. The Richter has come to this realization and the company is investing an additional 2 billion HUF for building a new manufacturing unit in order to provide a more attractive and comfortable environment for its employees who are already working for the company. In this sense, this development is exemplary.
-There is a very consciously built and long-term urban development policy in Debrecen, whose participants work closely with each other. The competition is getting harder as Cluj-Napoca and Kassa are competitors as well, so we should take the lead to keep the competitiveness of Debrecen. This endeavor was noticed by the multinational corporations, the foreign large enterprises -emphasized Lajos Kósa, Member of Parliament, at the ceremony.
The multi-storey building complex covers an area of 3,500 square metres housing, 72 new office workstations, and include a restaurant, conference room, company doctor’s room, rooms for mechanical and electrical systems, and a server room. The building complex is expected to put in service at the end of 2019.
