Successful Waste Collection and Recycling Activity in town

Debrecen also joined the nation-wide recycling and waste collection activity named ’’You pick it up! Or rather do not throw it away!"

In the frame of the activity, waste was collected in the city under organized conditions.

Students, consciousness groups, companies, and municipal organizations also participated in the program and cleaned up the city from illegally dumped rubbish. The 55 teams have collected 3175 bags of waste.

Thousands of students participated in the waste and recycling movement

Thousands of students of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center (DSZC) and the Debrecen Eduction Centre (Debreceni Tankerület) took part in the movement.

“We educate our students to take care of the natural and built environment, and to help clean and keep clean where we live. Our students are in the age where we can teach them to become conscious adults with good example and guidance. This program supports our goal”, Zsolt Tirpák, Chancellor of DSZC stressed.

Katalin Pappné Gyulai, Head of Debrecen Education Centre (Debreceni Tankerület) emphasized that “the success of the local actions goes far beyond the walls of the school, drawing attention to our shared responsibility. The action offers the citizens including adults and children the opportunity to exercise responsible behavior in relation to sustainable development.”

Politicians, athletes and celebrities also joined the movement

Many people joined the campaign, including László Türk, local government representative. László Türk stressed that “these actions are important because we can do a lot together for Debrecen”.

Lajos Barcsa, Deputy Mayor alsothanked the work of all volunteers, the members of the Mayor’s Office, the staff of the Agora Science Center and members of the Fidesz faction for their work.

“It is a special joy to see that many civil organizations and groups participated in the movement and help clean our environment. Seeing the success of the co-operation, I am sure we will continue to work after the nation-wide program ended”, he stated.

Diána Széles, Vice Mayor of Debrecen, Petra Senánszky, World Champion of finswimming and many other sports groups including the basketball team of DEAC, DVSE Waterballs and DVSC Schaeffler Handball joined and cleaned the area around Bartók Béla street.

The Debrecen Municipality extended the “You pick it up! Or rather do not throw it away!” movement until the end of the year. If you want to participate, you can simply register online.

If you do not want to join, its fine, but be aware that you have many ways to put the rubbish to the right place.

“Except for communal waste, all residents can dispose their waste free of charge in the municipal waste site in Debrecen. In contrast to many rural towns, where there is no such opportunity, it is available in Debrecen”, Csilla Domokos, spokesman of the Debrecen Waste Management company (DHK Kft.) stated.
