According to tradition, Christmas trees should be dismantled on 6th January, on the day of the Epiphany, and the Debrecen Waste Management Company has adapted the removal of the trees to this day, as Debrecen4U reported.
In the areas with detached houses, the pine trees will be collected by a municipal waste collection service, so they have to be placed next to the bin on collection days.
A separate collection service has been set up in residential areas. The service provider asks residents to place their pine trees on the route of the waste collection trucks, preferably in one place and in an easily accessible location. Before doing so, they request residents remove decorations and wrapping paper from Christmas trees. They are also asking anyone whose tree is over two meters tall to cut it in two, or it will not fit in the collection truck.
In Debrecen, 25-30 tonnes of pine trees are usually collected.
