The foundation stone of the Aquaticum Debrecen Strand was laid in the summer of 2018 and it opened its gates to the public last weekend on the 20th June.
Gergely Gulyás, Minister of Prime Minister’s Office, said at the opening, that Debrecen has a good chance of becoming the economic, educational, and entertainment center of the cross-border region. Aquaticum Debrecen Strand (the bath name) is an important part of this vision. The minister pointed out that the developments in Debrecen are carried out precisely after laying down the foundation stones.
Lajos Kósa, Fidesz Member of Parliament for the region, said that the new bath complex is a great extension of the adventure bath and spa in the Great Forest, and with its associated promenade, it is not in competition with any spas of the area. Tourists arriving in Eastern Hungary can find unique attractions in the 120-kilometer radius near Hebrúszoboszló, Nyíregyháza-Sóstó, and Miskolc-Tapolca.
László Papp, the mayor of Debrecen, called beach development an “extraordinary investment” because it was a great challenge to create a unique beach in terms of appearance and experience next to the one in Hajdúszoboszló that is the largest spa complex in Europe.
On the 8.5-hectare, 15 pools with 5,500 square meters of water were built, eight slides were placed, sun terraces were created 12 meters high and a separate children’s world was created. Restaurants and cafes will await guests on the strand promenade.
The investment was HUF 9.5 billion, from which government support was HUF 7.1 billion.
