The Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó emphasized at the handover of the new office building of Richter Gedeon in Debrecen that the pharmaceutical industry is one of the most important sectors of the Hungarian economy.
The pharmaceutical industry is the most innovative area of the Hungarian economy, and most of the R&D that put Hungary in the frontline among Central and Eastern European countries are done in this industry. The minister pointed out that the production value of the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry was HUF 910 billion in 2019, an increase of 5% compared to 2018.
In the past 10 years, the exports of the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry increased by 93 percent; and the value of the pharmaceutical export was HUF 2,000 billion in 2019. The performance of the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry increased by seven percent in the last eight months and currently 25,000 people work in the industry.
He highlighted that this achievement would not have been possible without Richter, which is not only the largest Hungarian pharmaceutical company, but also one of the most significant, successful and innovative pharmaceutical companies in Europe and operates successfully in Western Europe, America, Russia and China.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade emphasized that the government will continue supporting the industry to keep Hungarian pharmaceutical production at the forefront of the world.
