One of the Hungarian centers of artificial intelligence strategy is Debrecen. The data analysis center of the National Data Wealth Agency (Nemzeti Adatvagyon Ügynökség) will be located in Debrecen.
About 80 percent of the national supercomputer network operates on the Kassai út campus of the University of Debrecen. This capacity is now being increased tenfold as part of a project co-financed by the EU. Leo, the supercomputer named after Leo Szilárd, is capable of performing 280 trillion computations per second.
Thanks to the supercomputer, professionals can get the results from research extremely quickly. According to Zoltán Szijártó, President of the Government Informatics Development Agency, the aim of the project is to be suitable not only for numerical but also for image recognition systems, artificial intelligence, and the solution of big data type problems. It should also help accelerate economic growth.
So far, the supercomputing service has been provided primarily for higher education and academic research. However, in the future, economic operators would be involved in the project.
According to Balázs Solymár, Deputy Secretary of State for Digitization, it is important to emphasize that supercomputing can play a key role in pharmaceutical research, car manufacturing, industrial use, but also in serving the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises and increasing competitiveness.
Supercomputer services are expected to be available to companies by the end of next year.
