The first stage ( 174-kilometer) of the cycling race “Tour de Hongrie” starts from Debrecen and ends in Hajdúszoboszló. it is followed by the 182 kilometers Karcag-Nyíregyháza and the 171 kilometers Sárospatak-Kazincbarcika section. “Today it has become an event of growing reputation in the region, and this time the major players in the world’s biggest cycling events are also competing on the Tour de Hongrie,” said Tünde Szabó, State Secretary for Sport.
“No World Tour team has ever taken part in a bicycle race in Hungary before and was thought impossible and yet world stars are coming this year,” said Máriusz Révész, Government commissioner for Active Hungary.
Révész has announced that there will be 11 teams that will compete in both the Italian and Hungarian races.
Tour de Hongrie starts two days after the first three stages of the Giro d’Italia are being held in Hungary from 9 to 11 May, so the World Tour teams, who are in Hungary anyway, are happy to enter the Hungarian Tournament.
