Velodrome Construction Declared Priority for the National Economy

The government's declaration emphasizes the importance of the investment.

The government has declared the administrative authority matters related to the velodrome investment in Debrecen to be a matter of special importance.  The Hungarian Cycling Association (MKSZ) announced that the decision is a recognition of the achievements of the Hungarian cycling sport in the past year, the athletes and coaches.

The Commissioner for Active Hungary explained that of the three velodromes to be built, the one in the capital will be suitable for organizing world championships and Olympic competitions, while the two other facilities will serve the purpose of improving the infrastructural conditions of cycle sport.

Péter Princzinger , Chairman of the Hungarian Association of Cyclists, explained that the sports science and research including performance diagnostics background of the University of Debrecen have all played a role in venue selection.

Cycle sport is extremely important for the University of Debrecen, since it is sport that heavily relies on the latest advancements of science and up-to-date methods of performance diagnostics, the Chancellor explained.

Since the start of the preparatory work of the velodrome in 2018, planning, preparation and administrative tasks have been on the agenda and it has been coordinated by the Vice-President of MKSZ Béla Kovács.

The government approved the concept of the investment with its decree “Declaring administrative matters related to the Debrecen velodrome investment as a matter of priority for the national economy and designating the acting authorities”, reallocated HUF 420 million to the development, and declared the planned Pallag site as target area.
